Custom tracker offsets

When using different combinations of MANUS glove devices, tracking methods, and considering variations in user hand sizes and hardware positioning, you might find that the default tracker offsets are not always available or accurate for your needs. In such cases, you can adjust the relative offset of the hands to the tracker using the following methods.

Calibration

Assign the Trackers

In the profile settings menu for the intended user, assign the trackers to the left and right hands. You can use the scene view to identify which is which by color and assign them accordingly.

Continue on and skip the tracker selection dialog, unless your specific glove and tracker combination is present.

Warning

When using a non absolute tracker like the inside-out tracking Meta Quest it's likely this calibration can have fluctuating results. This is due to movements being relatively accurate but their absolute position generally not. In these cases we recommend doing a manual offset calibrating like described below.

Now follow the calibration steps on screen. At the end of the proces the tracker offsets should be correctly calibrated.

Manual offset & finetuning

If the calibration is unavailable due to the tracking system used or you'd like to fine tune the calibration, it's possible to tweak, load and save the offset manually.

The offset can be changed from inside the profile settings hand offset part. The right top button shows a transformation widget inside the scene view. This widget can be toggled between translation and rotation mode using the W and R keys.

Generally a good starting point is putting your hands on a flat surface with the fingertips pointing in the same direction. Then rotate the hands to be flat on the XZ-plane.

Then put your hands together (palms facing each other) and correct for the height offset.

Finally move your hands around each other and see where inaccuracies arise, and adjust as needed.

Saving

When you're happy with where the calibration is at. It's advised to save both offsets as an xml file using the Save to XML button inside the hand offset menus for later use.
