OpenVR (SteamVR)

This guide delves into how to set up your SteamVR system to use in MANUS Core.

Requirements

It's required to have a working installation of SteamVR set up with a compatible HMD. These can be the following, but not exclusively:

  • Valve Index
  • Meta Quest 2/3/Pro
  • HTC Vive / Pro / Pro 2 / XR Elite
  • Oculus Rift (S)
  • Pimax 5K / 8K X / Crystal
  • Varjo Aero / XR-3 / XR-4

Please refer to each manufacturer's specific setup instructions on how to set up the HMD and how to make use of SteamVR using that specific HMD. We do provide a Meta Quest specific guide for SteamVR configuration.

All positionally tracked devices will be handled inside MANUS Core as trackers. This includes but is not exclusive to:

  • Trackers (MANUS Pro Tracker / HTC Vive Tracker / Tundra Tracker )
  • VR Headsets
  • Controllers

The positioning an rotational data of these devices can then be used for absolute positioning of glove devices or full body tracking.

  1. Make sure SteamVR is running, the VR headset is working correctly and the space is calibrated.
  2. In MANUS Core Dashboard, navigate to tracking systems.
  3. Activate OpenVR (SteamVR), if this does not show up, refresh using the refresh button in the Tracking Systems header. If it's already on but does not seem to work, try toggling it off and on once.
  4. The trackers should now show up inside the scene view. If the floor is not calibrated correctly, they might be under the floor. If they are being tracked they will show up in the devices tab.

Configure (hands)

  1. In the profile settings navigate to the tracker section and assign the trackers to their respective hands.
  2. Make sure your MANUS glove devices are turned on and assigned to this user.
  3. Inside the scene view, the hands should now be following the positioning of the rigidbodies.
  4. If the orientation and/or positioning of the hands relative to the prop seem off, load the relevant preconfiguration if available from the Load from XML button.
  5. It's possible to tweak the offset to your liking from this menu or create your own. Please refer to our tracker offsets article for guidance.
