OptiTrack (Motive)

This guide walks through setting up OptiTrack Motive to use a marker rigidbody for absolute hand positioning in MANUS Core.

Requirements

Using tracked rigidbodies in MANUS Core requires a fully configured and calibrated OptiTrack motion capture system running Motive version 3.0.0 or newer. For optimal results, always use the latest stable version of Motive.

To track a prop, you’ll need at least 4 markers in a rigid configuration, such as the MANUS optical rigid shape included with most glove kits.

Setup

Define rigidbodies

  1. Open Motive and switch to the Builder pane.
  2. In the 3D view, select the 4 markers you want to use for the rigidbody.
  3. With the markers selected, right-click and choose Create Rigid Body.
  4. Assign a clear and descriptive unique name to the rigidbody. This will be visible in MANUS Core.
  5. Activate the rigidbody by checking it inside the Assets panel.

Note

By default, the orientation axis of a Rigidbody is aligned with the global axis when the rigidbody is first created.

Activate tracking system

  1. In MANUS Core Dashboard, go to the Tracking Systems panel.
  2. Make sure you have the Motive streaming settings configured correctly within Optitrack Motive. Currently we only support Multicast, so ensure that the transmission type is set to Multicast and the port is set to 1511. If you are using a different port, make sure to adjust it in MANUS Core as well. Make sure you have the correct Local Interface selected, which typically is loopback for localhost or the IP address of the computer running Motive on the network you are using.
  3. Enable OptiTrack. If the data appears unresponsive, try toggling the switch off and back on. The default connection port for OptiTrack is 1511, when using Motive over the network, the IP address should be configured to the IP of the computer running Motive, if connecting locally to the same computer, use 127.0.0.1, however with some configurations the machine's local IP (the same IP as seen in the Motive interface) may be required.
  4. Rigidbodies from Motive should now appear in the Scene View. Confirm their presence in the Devices tab.

Configure (hands)

  1. Open the Profile Settings and go to the Trackers section.
  2. Assign the OptiTrack rigidbodies to the corresponding left and right hands.
  3. Ensure your MANUS gloves are powered on and linked to this user profile.
  4. Hands in the scene should now follow the rigidbody positions.
  5. You can manually fine-tune offsets from this menu. Refer to the Tracker Offsets guide for detailed configuration.
