Glove setup in QTM

Follow these steps to setup MANUS Gloves in QTM: 1. In QTM, open the Input Devices page under Project Options.

  1. Click the Add Device button and select MANUS Gloves in the drop down menu.

  2. Open the MANUS Gloves settings page under Input Devices > Gloves to access the MANUS device settings, see chapter MANUS Gloves.

  3. Specify the IP address of the computer running MANUS Core. If QTM and MANUS Core run on the same computer, you can use 127.0.0.1.

  4. Choose a Model Type depending on the skeleton type used in QTM (Qualisys Skeleton or Metahuman).

  5. Press the Synchronize Settings button to locate the gloves and synchronize the settings.

Applying glove data on QTM skeleton

Creating a skeleton

Apply the markers to the actor according to the Qualisys Animation marker set guide which can be found in the Skeleton menu.

The markers for the Qualisys Animation and the MetaHuman skeleton models are the same. Attach the LHandOut and RHandOut markers to the gloves in the positions specified in the marker set guide. Use a T-pose to calibrate the skeleton.

Warning

The use of gloves in QTM requires a custom skeleton. Contact Qualisys support for more information.

Creating skeleton bindings

Go to the Glove processing page under Project Options > Processing, see chapter Glove Window.

The glove processing step settings dialog is used to create bindings which associate a glove to the skeleton its data will be applied to. To create a new binding, select an available glove in the bottom row of the bindings grid and then select the associated skeleton.

Once the glove bindings are created, you can stream and capture skeleton data including the hands driven by the gloves.

Viewing and exporting data

To view the glove data in QTM, open a Data Info window, right click in the display area and click Analog data.

To view the skeleton data, open a Data Info window, right click in the display area and click Skeleton data.

Data can be plotted by selecting the rows in the Data Info window, right-click, and select the data to plot from the Plot sub-menu.

The skeleton data can be exported to FBX, TSV, MAT and JSON formats, see chapter Data export to other applications in the Qualisys documentation.

Marker placement

The MANUS Quantum Mocap Metagloves and MANUS Prime 3 Mocap gloves come with optical markers installed in the fabric, on the index and pinky metacarpal joints.

When placing your wrist markers, the MANUS glove elastic band can be placed over the velcro base to provide additional stability.
